Happy Halloween! There’s nothing like a dystopian zombie thriller to get you in the mood for the scariest night of the year.
It had been a while since I had read this type of book so I was looking forward to reading The Infection by Craig Dilouie. You may recall a recent review I wrote about his latest release One of Us. If you haven’t checked that one out you should do so. It starts off slow but by the middle you’ll be hooked.
But back to The Infection. It’s a familiar story line of zombie-like people coming back and taking over the world and a band of plucky survivors trying to, well, survive. Nothing new there, but what is nice about this story is the added suspense and terror Dilouie weaves throughout.
I never like to give away too much detail, but I believe hardcore zombie fans will like the added twists and turns. And, if you’re like me, you will also appreciate the back stories he adds intermittently. It was a quick, easy read that I found myself wondering what was going to happen next. Always a good sign in any novel. And with the shortage of good horror movies out there these days it’s nice to see the zombie novel hasn’t lost its edge.
