I’m not sure when or why I signed up for Metallica’s fan club, but I did. Probably because I discovered their music a while back and mentally kicked myself for not paying attention sooner. I usually listen to country music, but there is just something about this band that can’t be denied.
I received an email this week about tickets going on sale for fan club members for the North American leg of their Worldwired tour. I scrolled through the dates and found that they are coming to my town.
Then I sighed.
The practical, introverted side of me knew it was never going to happen. Spending close to $1,000 for one night to be crammed into a stadium with a bunch of sweaty strangers is not my idea of a fun time.
Maybe I’ll just watch a Metallica-a-thon on YouTube that night…
So many options.
But you know they sold almost all of their presale tickets for the entire tour in less than 12 hours. The entire tour. The tickets go on sale to the general public today.
For those of you not familiar with the band, they started in 1981 in a garage. Not unlike a lot of other bands, but unlike most of them they continue to improve and release quality music. Their latest album Hardwired to Self-Destruct is quite possibly one of the best I’ve ever heard in any genre at any time.
And the title seems especially appropriate now don’t you think?
If you haven’t heard it yet, go find it. It’s worth a listen even if you’re not a metal fan.
Here’s to being a fifth member!!
